A record of Accomplishment:

 

Higher standards:

  • Regents diploma rate has risen from 35% to 74% during Burrell’s tenure.
  • Enrollment in, and number of, Honors and AP classes has increased.
  • Strong advocate for academic excellence.       

Improved Technology:

  • Spearheaded district wide focus on technology Resulting in computers in every classroom and LCD projectors in 75% of district classrooms.

 Experienced Professional Educator:

  • School Board Member since 1996. (President for 7 of the 12).
  • 20 years of Catholic school classroom teaching experience.
  • One of few Rockland graduates of the School Board Institute.
  • School Technology Coordinator for 6 years.

Engaged with community:

  • Encouraged increased parental involvement, effective communication and inclusiveness.        
  • Bryan Burrell has provided his personal cell phone number to the entire community on the district calendar in order to increase accessibility.

Effective Advocate for children by involvement in countless educational organizations including:

  • Rockland County School Boards Association
  • Executive Committee member, 21st Century Collaborative for Children and Youth
  • Member,  Rocklands new READY BY 21 initiative
  • Executive Committee member, Lower Hudson Educational  Coalition

Fiscally Responsible:

  • Some grants received under Burrell’s leadership:
    • Davinci Center computers, $100,000
    • Weight Room, $75,000
    • Waterford Reading/Computer program and computers, $100,000
  • Have advocated responsible spending that has resulted in $1.3 million dollars of savings used to offset tax increases.
  • Actively and successfully lobbied Washington and Albany for millions of dollars for the district.
